Vision & design principles

The Vision

International Quarter London (IQL) brings together the ingredients of Stratford’s modern heritage to create a new heart for East London; a destination to literally live, work, learn and play. Supported by unrivalled transport connectivity and with workplace at its core, IQL is made of what really matters.

Recognising the diversity present within Stratford today, IQL will connect with its neighbours to produce distinct places for existing and new residents, workers, students and visitors. It will create a brand-new neighbourhood with modern workspace, homes and a diverse retail offering.

Place Pillars

Four objectives known as Place Pillars, have been established to guide the design and development of all the buildings and public places within IQL. They describe a variety of vibrant spaces, each of which will have distinct uses, scale, character and activities.

A Workplace Without Boundaries

Workspaces are changing and are no longer constrained by four walls.

A Moment of Discovery

A diversity of places that sparks inspiration. Wander through the bustling urban laneways, collaborative outdoor spaces and tree-lined streets.

Your Piece of Stratford

Whether to work, live, or relax, IQL can be your piece of Stratford. Let us know what you would like to see and do here on the following pages:

  • What activities would you like to see in public spaces?
  • What activities would you like to see in living spaces?
  • What activities would you like to see in work spaces?
  • A Connector

IQL will be the place where people come together.

    Design Principles

International Quarter London is a large mixed use development, it spans 22 acres and includes 11 plots and a pavilion. In a project of this scale and complexity it is necessary to use design principles to drive the development of a coherent place.

The established design principles support an overall aim that the International Quarter London will be a diverse and inclusive neighbourhood incorporating homes, retail, workspace and public realm. To achieve this, the principles outline a variety of architectural styles, building and uses heights, forms, and connection routes across the site.

The ongoing design development of S10, S1 and S11 will be guided by the design principles that are applied across the IQL.
